Novel In Progress, Do Not Disturb (a photo story)

I finally finally finally finished a diorama last week, so here's Averie's bedroom/office area.  (Excuse the fact that the curtains were a pain in the neck and that the window needs more work.)

As November is National Novel Writing Month, Averie is using the time to get a head start on her latest book.  The goal is to write 50,000 words in thirty days.  (My own novel is currently at about 20,000.)  But this should be a cinch for Averie since she's a professional.

Unfortunately, she finds herself unable to make her word count easily when her roommates and friends keep interrupting.

Summer enters.
Summer:  Hey, Ave?

Averie:  What's up, Summer?

Summer:  Do you know if Mitchie went to pick up groceries today?  We're running low on some things, but I didn't want to get any if she's already headed there.

Averie:  I thought it was her week to pick them up, but I honestly don't know if that's where she is right now.  I'd give her a call to see if I were you.

Summer:  Okay, I'll call her then and I'll let you get back to work.

Averie:  See ya, Summer.

Back to work, but then...

Annabelle:  Hey, Averie.

Averie:  Annabelle?  What are you doing here?

Averie:  You're supposed to be staying at Valerie's this week.

Annabelle:  Well, yeah, I guess, but she has a date.  (She rolls her eyes.)  And besides, I wanted to hang out with Stacie.
Averie:  Don't the two of you see enough of each other on set?
Annabelle:  Not for girls' nights in.

Annabelle:  So can we get a pizza or something?
Averie:  If you want to, sure, I guess.  Take a twenty from my wallet and then will you please let me get back to work?
Annabelle:  Sure thing!  Thanks!

She tries to get back to work once more, but...

Nate:  Hey, Averie!

Averie:  Who let you in, Nate?
Nate:  Your sister.
Averie:  Why?
Nate:  Well, I was under the impression that you and I had lunch plans, but...

Averie:  I'm sorry.  I just got all caught up in my novel.  At least I've tried to.  Everyone's been interrupting.

Nate:  You sound like you need a break anyway.  Or do you want to stay holed up in this room trying to catch up on your word count?

Averie:  No.  If one more person barges in, I might scream.  Just let me get ready and we'll go.

Averie puts on her shoes while Nate continues small talk in the background.
Nate:  So the new book?  Have I inspired any characters lately?
Averie:  You wish.

Averie:  Just because they cast you in the first movie version of the trilogy does not mean I wrote that character for you.

Averie grabs her phone from its place on her desk.

Nate (in background):  You do realize that phones only provide more interruptions.
Averie:  Nevertheless, I can't leave the house without my phone.

Averie:  Okay, that should be everything.

Averie:  Hey, hon.
Nate:  Hey.

Averie:  Let's get out of here before someone stops us.

All things considered, if I can catch up on my word count, Averie who is a Serious Novelist can certainly catch up on hers, even if she has had more interruptions than I will.  Okay, well, now that I've procrastinated enough, off to write another 1,667 words if I don't get sidetracked first!  :)

Birthday:  April 7
Occupation:  actress
Relationship Status:  single
Siblings:  Valerie, Averie

Being the youngest of three sisters, Annabelle was often expected by many adults, while growing up, to follow the path her sisters forged for her and fit herself into one of their molds.  But that idea doesn’t sit well with Annabelle.  She’d much rather stay true to herself and be her own person than a copy of Valerie or Averie.  And in the process, this is exactly what has made her sisters more proud of her than they could have imagined.

Even though she’s just a teenager, Annabelle has a pretty clear idea of how she’d like to spend her future.  She knows that her time on Denton Academy with best friend Stacie Roberts will have to end eventually.  After all, no one can be a teen star forever.  But she knows that she wants to continue on with her acting, exploring a depth of roles, as varied as possible.  She’s the kind of girl who loves change and finds it more refreshing than daunting.

For now, her guardianship in Hollywood is often split up between Averie and Valerie.  (She has rooms in both of their houses.)  But while she loves California and the opportunities it’s provided her, she often finds herself homesick for her parents who are very rarely free to travel with her.  But she makes the most of modern technology, constantly connecting over email and Skype.  It helps to have her sisters and best friend nearby.  She admits that, despite the fact that she misses home, she wouldn’t trade her life for anyone’s.

Look who's here!

I have been absolutely dying to just see the articulated Skipper in person, even though I wasn't able to buy her at the time.  I couldn't find her anywhere in stores, so I waited until I had some money and finally ordered her on the Target website.  They sent me the wrong doll set.  By this point, the Skipper/Chelsea set was now unavailable online, so we went to return the dolls in-store.  The woman who helped us was so nice and helpful.  She even called Target.com to see if she could figure out the problem.  Apparently they assigned the same DCPI to two completely different doll sets.  And this set still wasn't in the store, so I walked out without her (but with two new Stardolls--go figure).

Today, I got an email from TRU, saying that all Barbies and playsets (excluding Collector) were 50% off today and tomorrow.  I hadn't seen this Skipper at my usual TRU so my mom and I went across town.  We found her hidden behind some other dolls.  I basically dove for her even though there was no one else in the aisle who would have taken her.  Long story short, I got her for half the price I was paying at Target, so...$10 for both her and Chelsea.  I really like the Chelsea too because even though she's not articulated, her arms have a wider range of movement.

I also ended up picking the huge box set of Fashionistas with six dolls that's usually $70 for $35, so now I have more body donors than I know what to do with, but I knew I'd never get a price like that again.

Just showing off her articulation.  :)

I'll try to get more pictures of her tomorrow in better light and hope to have a profile up for her character Annabelle soon (since she's replacing my former brunette Skipper).

Still haven't gotten around to finishing a photo story.  I keep getting distracted and starting new projects.  But eventually... :)

Hope all is well with you guys!

Little projects and some new faces

About a month and a half ago, my mom and I decided to redo the attic.  (We've basically spent the last year painting various parts of the house, so it was about time.)  I have the whole attic to myself, but I wasn't utilizing all of the space.  I have two rooms and quite a bit of space around the stairs.

The door on the right of this picture leads into the room where I keep most of my doll things.  To the left (not pictured) is my bedroom.  On the opposite side where I'm taking this photo from is now my little office area.  Prior to redecorating, my desk and my shelves with my CDs & DVDs were in the same room as the dolls.  But I moved them out so that my dolls could basically take over more space in the doll room.  So I've spent the past few weeks trying to be good and organize it...which is taking much longer than I've expected and isn't nearly as fun as just playing.  But I digress.

I am completely obsessed with Disney...like to the point where it's probably unhealthy.  But anyway, my princesses finally have the perfect place to be displayed.

The fact that her hair is ridiculously long makes me happy.

Honestly wish I could get her to sit like a lady, but I'll find a stand soon enough.

On Saturday, my Katniss doll finally arrived in the mail and I'm absolutely in love with her.  I mean, I knew I would be.  But...she's just so beautiful in person.  This one is for display only.  When I finally start making money again, I intend to get a second to make a character.

And finally, the girls and I tried to have a little photoshoot today...which had mixed results.  Summer is literally the clumsiest doll I own.  She is always falling over...even when she's not trying to stand.  So it definitely makes group shots a blast when she takes everyone else down with her.  She even crashed her head pretty hard today during one of her falls.  As a result, we only got through two setups before I needed to take a break.  I figure I'll finish the photoshoot later on.

Apparently by the time everyone got situated Audrey got tired of her shoes and kicked them off.  Go figure.

Pretty sure Audrey was thrilled she was already on the ground by the time this picture was finished.  I know Holly must be cringing somewhere muttering about Summer being one of her clients and embarrassing her.

Anyway, hopefully more soon.  The walls and floor used in this shoot are soon to be made into the living room of Summer, Skipper, Mitchie, and Averie's house...which has been in the works for a really long time.  I feel like I've finally accomplished something today.

Starting as a model, Maya made her way into the ranks of esteemed fashion designers, finally creating her own fashion label sometime a few decades ago.  Now she’s one of the top names in fashion and is known for mentoring new young hopefuls and nurturing their dreams.  Sometimes she even hosts them on her label to help jumpstart their careers.

When she first started raising her two girls, it was easy to let her massive career get in the way of parenting.  But as time passed, she learned to prioritize and find the proper balance between work and family.  Now even though her daughters are both of age, she makes sure to spend as much time with them as possible, encouraging them each to follow their own creative pursuits.

Occupation:  student
Relationship Status:  single
Siblings:  Mari

Unlike her mother and older sister, Emi has no real interest in the spotlight.  She’ll sometimes attend important events with them for support, but she doesn’t search for that attention herself.  In fact, she spends most of her time pursuing as normal a life as possible under the circumstances.  As of now, she’s a college student, simply majoring in fine arts with a focus on painting.

Sometimes it’s hard not knowing whether people truly want to be her friend or whether they just want a connection to a famous fashion designer and a popstar sister.  But Emi endeavors to be friendly to everyone, knowing that her true friends will stick with her in the long run.  She sees no reason to shut everyone out just because a handful of people have attempted to hurt her (and really, she’s more resilient than that anyway).
